The Route 66 Museum's 6th Anniversary Classic Car Show Celebration brought over 90 antique and unique cars and motorcycles for a day of fun and competition. Registrants came from around California, Oregon, and New Mexico. Fifteen special Route 66 shield-shaped plaques created by Eddie Cordova for the top ten plus five distinctive awards were presented to the winners. Domenic and Davana Valentino received awards for "Top Ten" and also the Miss Route 66 Queens' Choice "Distinctive Award" for their 1959 Austin Healey Sprite.

Super DJ KevDog played the best mix of 50s/60s, hotrod tunes, and the new Disney/Pixar soundtrack of the animated movie "Cars". Opening remarks for our Anniversary Celebration was given by Jim Conkle, CEO of Preservation of Historic Roads and Corridors, National Spokesperson for Hilton Hotels Hampton Inn & Suites, Co-Chair of the 2006 International Route 66 Will Rogers Festival, and General Manager of the Route 66 Pulse newspaper. Former two-time Miss Route 66 title holder Leialli Kamel, age 5, beautifully sang the National Anthem to the attention of the crowd.

Albert Okura & his Juan Pollo staff served up the best tasting chicken with side dishes of potato salad, rice, beans, tortillas, chips & salsa. Juan Pollo's cast of giant sized cartoon characters, Taz and Daffy Duck, watched over the event.

Raffle prizes, valued over $2000, included free car washes, free movie passes to the local Skyline Drive-In Theatre, free meals & desserts from nearby popular restaurants and fast-food places, $500.00 gift certificate for mini-blinds, $150.00 rug, blankets, games, Lightening McQueen Electric Race Car donated by David Sheehan of Hollywood Close Ups, autographed books, a bounty of fine Route 66 souvenirs and other wonderful items.

More special visitors were David and Mary Lou Knudson of the National Historic Route 66 Federation, Joe Bono of Bono's Orange in Fontana, Kevin Hansel, President of the California Historic Route 66 Association, Lucie McMurtie, Secretary/Treasurer of the California Historic Route 66 Association, and Al Morrissette representing the new Route 66 newspaper, The Pulse.

About 100 people took tours of Casa del Desierto given by docent Sherry Manning of Northridge. Harry Baker directed parking the show vehicles and Helen completed the registration process. Miss Route 66 Queens and numerous volunteers contributed their time, muscles and voices creating a fun celebration for all!

Next year promises to be another wonderful celebration. The date is scheduled for June 16, 2007, the day before Father's Day. We will have goody bags for the first 66 registrants and special gifts to honor dads! The date is scheduled for June 16, 2006, the day before Father's Day.
